Stretching out in someone’s doorway and refusing to leave until they agree you’re right is always an option, and so is holding your breath until you turn blue. Another classic is the silent treatment, of course. All of these extreme tactics from your childhood are tempting, but they’re not very effective and are likely to be counterproductive. For now, you need to agree to disagree.

Play fair didn’t stop as a mantra as soon as you finished preschool. It extends to arguments as well. Keep your fingers away from those emotional buttons you’d love to push to rile up your opponent, friend, or potential sweetie.

Is winning that important? If it’s not, it might be time to show them how adaptable you can be. They might be surprised by your ability to compromise. You could surprise yourself too.

You can’t afford to spend an extra penny. If planning, planning and more planning your budget is starting to wear thin, then spend time doing what still comes freely: helping others.
